Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s)
premier scholarship program. Each year, more than 50,000 high school studentscompete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students competeby writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is, Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military. Lounge update: We will no longer be open for lunch on Fridays. The lounge will be open at 3 pm and we will begin serving fish fry at 4 pm. The lounge will continue to open at 4 pm Tuesday,Wednesday,
Thursday and Saturday.

WELCOME TO VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS BURNS POST 388  Wausau VFW Burns Post 388 was established on June 6 1920 and is named in honor of James and John Burns, brothers from Wausau who were killed in France during World War One. Our post is one of the largest in the state of Wisconsin and has always been active in supporting our community and it's veterans.
Post and Auxiliary meetings: Second Tuesday of every month 7:30 PM
KARAOKE: EVERY FRIDAY
Join us every friday at 8 PM for karaoke at the Hangar Lounge. We offer drink specials during karaoke and our kitchen is open until midnight serving selected menu items and our awesome homemade pizza.
STEAK NIGHT AT THE VFW
Join us for streak night the first Tuesday of every month. We serve delicious Townline Market ribeyes cooked to order with plenty of mushrooms and onions, a huge baked potato and salad bar. Spaghetti and meatballs also available. We serve from 4:30-8 PM. After dinner our swing band takes the stage.
FRIDAY LAND AND SEA BUFFET
Starting on Friday, February 3rd we will be serving a land and sea buffet in addition to our regular Friday fish fry. Cost for the buffet is $12.99.
2012 BUDDY POPPY DRIVE
This year the Auxiliary will be handing out Buddy Poppy's on Friday, May 25th at several local businesses. This year's Poppy Princess will also be handing out poppy's at the VFW during Friday Fish Fry on May 25th.
SUMMER EVENTS
This summer is jam packed with events. Starting with the Memorial Day parade and program in May and ending with the fair in August.We will also be hosting the annual car show in June and the travelling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will be back at the VFW also in June. We will have the food trailers open on the post grounds during the World Junior Kayake Championships on July 10-15. And do not forget about the Post picnic in July. As always we will need volunteers to work these events. Please give us as much time as you can, this summer will be extremely busy and your help will be very much appreciated.This years set up for the fair will be Friday, July 27th and Saturday, July 28th. The fair will be held from Tuesday, July 31st - Sunday, August 5th. Take down will be Monday, August 6th.
